Ajith: From beard to stubble!

A couple of months back there was much ado about Ajith's growing beard, and the cine journos in Kollywood were going wild spinning yarns of stories about the bearded actor. Then news was out that the reason behind Ajith sporting the beard was for a new look in his upcoming film 'Aegan'. We have online channels also flashing certain pictures of the actor cocooned in woolen suits wielding a gun. Real cool pics. This is one hero who looks great with any look or costume that he dons. Recently, Ajith was spotted with the lightest of stubble and glasses, and looked really ....oomph. Sources suggest that this is another look that the actor will sport for the film. Sources also suggest that the bearded look that Ajith doned for the film were for the flashback scenes. Ajith will soon be seen together with the heroine Nayantara of the film 'Aegan', for the songs shoot. The director of this film dance choreographer Raju Sundaram has promised to give the audience a great entertainer. Suhasini Manirathnam plays pivotal role and Navdeep plays Ajith's half-brother in this film. This film so far has made the right kind of hype, something which has surely raised the curiosity of the movie goers.

Will 'Ayan' and 'Aegan' get new names?

Tamil films have started triggering debates over the language of Tamil. The fresh debate over the root of the words ‘Ayan’ and ‘Aegan’ has raised many questions over naming Tamil films. ‘Ayan’ (starring Suriya) means Brahma, the God, who creates and ‘Aegan’ (starring Ajith) means Siva, the God, who destructs. Though both words find a place in Tamil dictionary, it is said that the titles would be changed, as these words do not have their roots in Tamil. They, according to some scholars, were borrowed from Sanskrit and hence they cannot be considered as Tamil titles. Last year DMK government announced entertainment tax exemption to the films that have Tamil titles. The move was taken by the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to discourage the then trend to have English titles for Tamil films. The filmmakers and producers started naming their films after Tamil titles. Now, following the objection to give tax exemption to “meaningless Tamil titles”, Tamil Nadu government has announced that the concession would not be extended to the films that do not have relevant titles. This has triggered a deep concern over the ‘relevance’ of the titles and many producers are preparing proper explanations to justify their titles. Though the titles ‘Aegan’ and ‘Ayan’ cannot be termed as irrelevant ones, some argue that they are not original Tamil words and hence they advise the producers to find some alternate to get the tax exemption. Though Vairamuthu, veteran lyricist and a Tamil scholar, has categorically told that ‘Ayan’ is a Tamil word, the controversy ceases to die. One wonders how could the words taken from or inspired by other languages long back could be termed as non Tamil words.

Suman to fight with Ajith

The erstwhile hero Suman, who made his comeback in to Tamil films with 'Sivaji' as a villain is getting more offers to act as villain. The handsome star, who fought with the Superstar in 'Sivaji', will now battle with Ajith in his forthcoming movie 'Aegan'. Suman got the chance to act in 'Sivaji' after Prakashraj refused to act as a villain in the mega movie produced by AVM and directed by Shankar. The director then approached Suman and the rest is history. Suman’s handling of the character won him lot of accolades and he started getting calls from many filmmakers to act as villain in their films. The actor, however, was determined to act only with the big heroes and hence refused many offers that came his way. Finally he has got the offer he was waiting for. Raju Sundaram, director of 'Aegan', approached him to don the role of the villain in the film. Suman, who gleefully accepted the offer, is now preparing to clash with Ultimate Star.

Sameera pairs up with Ajith

Sameera Reddy must be in cloud nine. The hot girl, who couldn’t make much of an impact in Bollywood, where he made her foray into films, is getting new offers in Tamil after making her entry in Kollywood with Gautham Menon’s ‘Varanam Aayiram’. Sameera is one of the two heroines of Suriya in ‘Varanam Aayiram’ (the other one is Divya Spandana). Now she has got to act with none other than Ajith even before ‘Varanam Aayiram’ is released. The movie will be produced by Sivaji Productions and directed by Gautham Menon, who introduces her in Kollywood. Sameera is lucky enough to be paired with two of the most sought after heroes in Kollywood. The pairing up with the likes of Suriya and Ajith has obviously increased the confidence of Sameera, who is determined to make it big in South. ‘Varanam Aayiram’, meanwhile, is growing fast and will be ready for release soon.

Ajith's baby doll!

The Ajith-Shalini couple was blessed with a baby daughter in the beginning of this year; to be more precise on January 3, 2008. The new parents were so thrilled by this bundle of joy because that was the time when Ajith was reeling in the success of his 'Billa'. The child is around its third month now and the papa Ajith has found a name for his baby girl. The christening ceremony will take place from Ajith's home in Chennai in a simple ceremony. And for all those 'thala' fans who are wondering as to what the name of the baby is, Ajith has zeroed in on the name Anoshka. Now if you are wondering as to what the meaning of Anoshka might be, we have a clue for you. Well all those of you having a Tamil dictionary can take a quick peek into the dictionary because you will get the exact meaning of the child's name in there.

Vijay’s advice to Ajith

Vijay, who is very keen in not allowing his child’s picture appearing in the media, has advised Ajith to follow the same policy. Vijay, in fact, did not allow any one to take photograph till the child completed one year. Ajith, who has decided to follow Vijay’s advice, hasn’t given any photographs of his child to the media. He has even refused to tell the name of the child.

Ameer desires to direct Ajith

Ameer, who is busy with Yogi, is planning to direct films featuring Jayam Ravi and Vikram after he finishes Yogi. When queried about his choice of best actor among the contemporaries, he picks out Vikram’s name. “I tell this after a deep thought”, asserts the director. “My next choice is Ajith”, he adds. We could do wonders with an actor like Ajith but he is caught in the ‘action’ web, opines Ameer. He is confident of bringing out a different Ajith, if he gets a chance to direct the ‘Ultimate Star’. Is Ajith hearing?

Billa 2007 - not impressive

There was much hype about Billa 2007 when it was released. The entire unit of the movie proclaimed that the movie has come out so stylishly and glamorously. So my expectations were high too. But after seeing the movie I was so disappointed as the movie didn't differ from the original in a big way. Only difference was that the artists were different and everyone were wearing sun glasses. We have already seen it in 'Don' guys!

Ajith pairs with Deepika Padukone?

The buzz making rounds in Kollywood is that Ajith is tipped to be pairing with the latest and hottest sensation Deepika Padukone. The buzz also has it that it would be Saran, who would direct the film. The yet-to-be-confirmed news has the potential to become the next big thing to be happening in Kollywood. If the news gets materialized, it would be an exciting development for the two stars, as both are in an upbeat mood. The handsome star Ajith is eagerly awaiting his 'Billa' to be released. He is said to be satisfied with the work and expect it to be a phenomenal movie in his career. The model turned actor Deepika, who is hailed the next Aishwarya Rai in terms of beauty and grace, is in cloud nine following the success of her maiden venture 'Om Shanti Om'. If she gets a chance to act in a Tamil film opposite a leading star like Ajith, she would become an all India star overnight. She had earlier done a movie in Kannada alongside Upendra. Saran, who has earlier given successful movies 'Kadhal Mannan', 'Amarkkalam' and 'Attahasam', is eying for another hit with Ajith. Saran has worked with many leading stars, including Kamal Haasan, Vikram, Madhavan, and Arya, has proven that he is a commercially successful director. The movie would be the fourth for the Ajith – Saran combination. For the fans, of course, it would be a treat to watch.
